History of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church was born out of a need for a Lutheran Church in the northern part of Canton. In 1953 a meeting of persons interested in this venture was held in a room upstairs at the Hol-Guem's Dairy (called the House of Milk & Honey).
A large brick house at 42nd and Cleveland Ave. NW was purchased and worship services were held there until Oct. 1960 when the present sanctuary was dedicated.
A Fellowship Hall, two offices and kitchen were added in 1964.
The education unit containing class rooms and a two room library were finished in Oct. 1969.
A handicaped accessible narthex with courtyard, lounge and restrooms was dedicated in Oct. 1991.
Volunteers and professionals helped to work on a church renovation program for the 50th anniversery for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Installing stained glass windows (in the sanctuary), that tell the story of Christ's life, is the final stage of the renovation. |
